“That’s across from Louisville,” he said. “How did the body get across the falls? You know yourself that is a pretty long distance for a body to travel. I don’t believe they have Hannah’s body yet.”

A reporter asked, “Didn’t you pack it in a shoe box and throw it into the river?”

“Yes, I did,” he said, despondent. “But I can’t see how the body got so far.”

Fearing that Knapp might commit suicide as the discovery of the body ensured a trial in Hamilton and a possible death penalty, Sheriff Bisdorf had a trusty prisoner transferred into Knapp’s cell to keep an eye on him.
